The Internet and World Wide Web

The best way to describe the internet is as a massive network of interconnected computers that uses the TCP/IP to communicate with each-other. There are two people who are credited with creating the internet. They are Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf. Vint Cerf has said that the federal government had a huge part in the creation of the internet as well. The internet was created in the 1960's as a prototype called ARPANET.

The internet became publicly available on August 6, 1991. The internet was originally created for military use. They used it to send encrypted messages to others. The internet gradually made its way into the science realm, where scientists would use it as a way of communication. Today the internet is used for many purposes. People use it for almost everything, from car sales to blogging. With the internet growing everyday there is almost nothing you cannot find on it.

The World Wide Web is an information system that stores documents and other web sources, which are identified by uniform resource locators. The creators name is Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who is a well known British computer scientist. The World Wide Web was created in October 1990, when he created the three fundamental technologies that ran it. They are: HTML, URI, and HTTP. When it became 1991 he invited others to join his Web platform to create content. This was so not only people inside of Cern were creating web pages. It was originally used as a web page editor and browser called the, WorldWideWeb.app. Today  it is used as free platform where anyone can post. People can upload any content they want in order to target their specific audiences.

The internet and world wide web are completely different systems. The internet is a vast network of interconnected computers. The world wide web is the collection of all the webpages found on a certain network of computers. While they are very closely connected, they are not the same. They do although work together. You need the internet to get to the world wide web. You can think of the internet as the core of the world wide web, and the world wide web is what you can actually see such as the webpages you visit.

The first website ever published was on August 6, 1991. It was created by the inventor of the world wide web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee. The first Website created provides plentiful information about the world wide web. The website is still up today and you can find it at, http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html.
